چکیده

Anal fissure in childhood usually heals quickly after treatment with stool softeners and a local anaesthetic ointment; infection does not usually occur. Two cases are reported in which Lancefield group A , haemolytic streptococci were isolated from cultures from the perianal skin, which was erythematous and excoriated. streptocci were grown from culture of a perianal swab. She was asymptomatic after one week of oral treatment with phenoxymethylpenicillin. Neither child was systemically unwell, but both had suffered considerable discomfort. Bacterial cultures from other sites were not available. There were no signs of sexual interference.

Group B Streptococcus detection in pregnant women via culture and PCR methods.

INTRODUCTION: Group B Streptococcus (GBS), a source of neonatal infection, colonizes the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts of pregnant women. Routine screening for maternal GBS in late pregnancy and consequent intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis have reduced the incidence of early-onset GBS neonatal infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of PCR, compared to cult...

Clinical Significance and Characterization of Streptococcus tigurinus Isolates in an Adult Population.

Streptococcus tigurinus is a newly described member of the Streptococcus mitis group. Due to the difficulty in distinguishing viridans group streptococci (VGS) by phenotype, analysis of 16S rRNA sequences is necessary for the accurate identification of most species. Through a laboratory policy of analyzing all clinically significant isolates from the VGS group by16S rRNA gene sequencing, we ide...

Occasionally patients have fissures, painful defecation with secondary constipation and rectal bleeding....

Group B streptococci--gastrointestinal organisms?

Matched perianal swabs, rectal swabs, and faecal samples from a group of male homosexual patients attending a clinic for sexually transmitted disease were examined for the presence of group B streptococci (GBS). GBS recovery rates were as follows: perianal skin 31/115 (27%), rectal mucosa 18/72 (25%) and faeces 7/115 (6%). The recovery of GBS from faeces was similar to that obtained from faecal...
